A Brief Intro

First of all, what you are going to receive as you read my blog is encouraging words and insights drawn from my experiences. Writing this blog helps me process my thoughts and my hope is that you will benefit from what I write.

Here's an introduction to me.

It's hard to summarize a life of 68+ years. I started to write a detailed account but trashed it. You wouldn't want to read it. I decided to focus on the main decisions in my life and their impact.

Decision 1. As a student at Bemidji State University I met students who were genuine followers of Jesus. Through their influence I began my walk with Jesus, which I have continued to this day, a course which has impacted every decision in my life.

Decision 2. I met a student, Diane, at BSU who became a friend and eventually my wife.

She's sitting next to me in the photo above. We celebrated 45 years of marriage in August, 2021. In case you are wondering, the background in this photo is the harbor of Grand Marais, Minnesota. Go there. It's a nice place.

Decision 3. After I graduated from BSU I went to Iowa State University. When I began my studies at ISU I intended to earn a PhD and spend my life doing research and teaching at a university. But, I came to realize that my motives were wrong, so I abandoned this goal. I completed a M.S. degree and then took jobs that allowed me to focus on my family and my spiritual development.

Decision 4. After completing a M.S. degree in Health Physics in 1986, my wife and I moved the family to St. Paul where I began work at 3M. Our family got involved in a church where we developed strong friendships and a deeper walk with Jesus. We have been committed to this group of Christ followers to this day.

Decision 5. In 1995 I began traveling to San Jose (Costa Rica), leading a group from church to partner with a church there. These trips have continued on nearly an annual basis. I count the people I know in San Jose as dear friends and my experiences on these trips have been life-changing.

That's all for now. If you continue to my blog then we begin the adventure of life together.
